The PM Surya Ghar:  Muft Bijli Yojana

It is a government initiative designed to furnish free electricity to households throughout India. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024, the scheme offers subsidies to facilitate the installation of solar panels on rooftops. These subsidies will offset up to 40% of the solar panel expenses. Envisioned to aid 1 crore households nationwide, the scheme anticipates saving the government Rs. 75,000 crore annually in electricity expenditures.

The primary objective of the solar rooftop subsidy scheme, instituted by the central government, is to encourage a larger adoption of solar panels on rooftops, thereby reducing dependency on the grid station for energy. Eligibility Criteria

The household must be comprised of Indian citizens.
The household must possess a residence with a roof suitable for solar panel installation.
A valid electricity connection for the household is mandatory.
The household should not have previously received any other subsidy for solar panels.

Online Application Steps

Step 1: Visit the official website   pmsuryaghar.gov.in

Step 2: Register by providing the following details

  • Choose your State
  • Select your Electricity Distribution Company
  • Enter your Electricity Consumer Number
  • Provide Mobile Number
  • Enter Email
  • Follow the directions on the portal.
    Step 3: Log in using your Consumer Number & Mobile Number.

    Step 4: Fill out the Rooftop Solar application form.

    Step 5: Complete the online application form.

    Step 6: Await feasibility approval from DISCOM. Once approved, proceed to install the solar plant through any registered vendor in your DISCOM.

    Step 7: After installation, submit plant details and apply for a net meter.

    Step 8: Following net meter installation and DISCOM inspection, a commissioning certificate will be generated from the portal.

    Step 9: Upon receiving the commissioning report, submit your bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. Subsidy funds will be deposited into your bank account within 30 days.
